HOUSTON – Texas Children’s Hospital, the only nationally ranked hospital in Texas – tied for #3 as the best pediatric hospital in the country by U.S. News & World Report – announced it has selected McCarthy Building Companies (McCarthy) and Dynamic Systems, Inc. (DSI) to build its freestanding children and women’s hospital in Austin. Previously announced, the $450 million project is part of the hospital’s ongoing desire to serve families in Austin and Central Texas.
“McCarthy is excited to partner with a Mechanical Contractor who has experience with medical facilities and long-term presence in the Austin market,” remarked Jeff Will, Project Manager with McCarthy.
Set to open in Q4 2023 on the North Austin Presidio property, the 48-bed, 360,000 square-foot hospital will provide: neonatal intensive care; pediatric intensive care; operating rooms; an epilepsy monitoring unit; sleep center; emergency center; labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum care; diagnostic imaging; acute care; an on-site Texas Children’s Urgent Care location; and approximately 1,200 free parking spaces. It will also offer expert care for numerous pediatric subspecialties – including heart, cancer, brain, lung, gastroenterology, and rheumatology care, among others, as well as a dialysis unit and a Maternal-Fetal Medicine clinic.
Working closely with McCarthy Building Companies, Dynamic Systems, Inc., and architect Page, Texas Children’s will participate in the Austin Green Building Council program to design, build and sustain healthy facilities for Austin communities. Currently Texas Children’s has 84 employees and 25 physicians in Austin and the organization looks forward to continuing to grow and expand its Austin-based family. This project will bring an estimated 400 new jobs to the Austin area.
Since opening the organization’s first health care location in 2018, Texas Children’s continues to further deliver on its vision and promise to meet Central Texas families’ needs by way of this state-of-the-art facility specifically for children and women.
