Opened in July of 2020, The University of Texas at Dallas’ new Sciences Building is a 186,000 square-foot facility housing the Department of Physics and the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The new building includes classrooms, offices, teaching and research laboratories, and features 150-seat and 300-seat lecture halls and an open courtyard with green space and seating areas.
A few potential project challenges for DSI included:
- Utility plant expansion to support new campus load
- Congested utility corridors necessary to support lab spaces
- Installation of an optics lab with extremely stringent temperature and humidity requirements
This project won Engineering News-Record (ENR) Texas & Louisiana’s 2021 Best Projects competition for the Best Higher Education/Research category.
