Capitol Complex CUP Expansion

Austin, Texas

This central utility plant (CUP) has been designed to provide cooling capacity for Phase 1 and 2 of the Capitol Complex Master Plan. It will serve to support temporary cooling demands for other new construction projects in the Capitol Complex such as 1601 Congress building and 1801 Congress building. In addition, the CUP will combine capacity with the SFA chiller plant through interconnected piping to serve existing buildings LBJ, WBT, and SFA.

The greatest challenge for this project was the sequence of commissioning. With all other Capitol Complex projects tied to the cooling capacity this CUP provides, final functional testing of the distribution between buildings is contingent upon other projects’ cooperation and timely completion.
